If you’ve called our office before, you have probably heard of the Federal Poverty Line. But what the heck is that? And how do I know what I would qualify for?

Here are the basics: The Federal Poverty Line is the line that the government sets to determine eligibility for certain programs. Among these programs is Medicaid and CHIP.

So when it comes to filling out your Healthcare.gov application, if you make less than the required amount to be above the poverty line, you will not be eligible for a health insurance plan offered through the marketplace, instead you will be bumped to apply for Medicaid or CHIP.

So these numbers are good to know as you make plans for your insurance coverage.
