Occasionally, we ask our clients to sign a letter that states their name and their policy number and that they would like us to be their “Agent of Record.” In our business, we call this an AOR. Why would we ask you to do that? Well, there are occasions when a policy is written and through confusion with the marketplace or for some other reason, we’ve helped you with the policy, but you are not listed as our client or we are not listed as your agent.

The advantage of having an agent is that we can represent your policy on your behalf and help you when there’s questions and concerns and issues. So, if you’re ever asked to sign an agent of record, it means that that person wants to take over as an agent to help you with your policy.

Keep in mind though that if someone is asking you this question and they are not your agent, then that policy will transfer to the new agent and they will be helping you and your original agent will not. The biggest part from an agent standpoint is that we no longer have access to your account to help you.
