Why do I have to verify my citizenship?
When you apply for insurance through the health insurance marketplace you may
receive a letter from them asking you to verify your citizenship. They ask for this simply
as proof to them that you are who you say you are. The tax subsidies are distributed
through the IRS. If healthcare.gov can verify who you are they sometimes ask for more
information to verify you and make sure you are getting the correct tax subsidy.
