An AOR stands for Agent of Record. The Agent of Record is a document that insurance brokers and agents ask their clients to sign to make sure that they are the agent on that client’s policy.

The agent makes sure that a client signs the AOR so that he receives a commission from the policy he set up with the client. This also means that the client will not pay out of pocket to work with an agent, because the agent’s commission will come from the carrier directly.

The agent also requests the client to sign an AOR so that the agent can review their policy and can be their advocate/representative if there were any issues with the client’s policy or the carrier they purchased that policy from.

In order to protect the client, carriers will not give out any information regarding their policy unless they have given authorization to their Agent of Record.
